Audience numbers rise as Overwatch World Cup 2026 nears playoffs

The Overwatch World Cup returned in 2026 after a three-year hiatus, with 16 teams competing in the Group Stage. The stage recorded 90% more Hours Watched and a 5.8% rise in Peak Viewers compared with 2023.

Average Viewers also increased by 14.6%, indicating sustained audience interest despite the expanded match schedule. Japanese- and Korean-language broadcasts have already surpassed their total viewership from the entire 2023 tournament, while English- and Arabic-language broadcasts remain below their previous figures. Sweden versus Japan was the most-watched match of the Group Stage.

The United States, Saudi Arabia, Germany, and France finished first in their respective groups and advanced to the playoffs alongside four other teams. Japan and China were eliminated during the Group Stage. The playoffs are scheduled for September 12–14, with the remaining teams competing for the championship.

The 2023 edition still holds the overall Hours Watched record at 5.5 million, but the 2026 tournament could surpass that mark again.
