Interview with Vertigo, League of Legends player for Vitality

Evalunna (Vitality)

1. Welcome, and thank you for accepting this interview. Could you briefly introduce yourself and your team?

My in-game name is Vertigo, and I am the toplaner for Vitality Bee. We compete in the LFL, which is the French ERL.

2. What motivated you to join this team?

My main motivation was to prove myself in the hardest ERL, the LFL, and I also wanted to work with players I could learn from.

3. What is your biggest goal for the upcoming season?

My biggest goal is to win the LFL and win EMEA Masters again.

4. What do you think is your greatest strength as a player?

I think my greatest strength is my meta reading and how quickly I pick up new champions.

5. Is there a player or a team that particularly inspires you? Why?

I think Zeus is my biggest inspiration. He has a very confident playstyle and showed this year that he doesn’t need T1 to keep playing like before.

6. With the constantly evolving meta, how do you keep yourself sharp against other teams?

I play a lot of solo queue, maybe even too much sometimes.

7. What has been your most memorable moment with the team?

My most memorable moment was scrimming Gen.G in Korea and just being in Korea with the team.

8. What’s your oldest League of Legends memory?

My oldest memory is picking Garen in Season 3 and thinking my E did damage to towers.

9. What inspired you to get into esports?

I’ve always enjoyed competition, and I’ve been Master+ since I was 15, so after finishing school, I became a pro player.

10. What advice would you give to someone who wants to make it as an esports player?

If you really want it, you have to invest almost everything into it. It’s not an easy thing to do.

11. Vertigo, where does that name come from?

When I was 17, during school, I had vertigo in summer. Vertigo is a condition where you feel dizzy and have a spinning sensation.

12. Outside of League of Legends, what other games or activities are you passionate about, and how do they contribute to your balance as a professional player?

I used to play a lot of WoW, but now I mostly only play LoL.

13. A message for people who say you look like XQC?

Haha, it’s mainly because of my hairstyle and maybe because I also talk fast like him, but I like the comparison. He’s always been one of my favorite streamers to watch.

14. How many hours per day should a player play to become pro?

Probably around 8 to 14 hours depending on the player.

15. How do you maintain a work-life balance as a professional player?

It’s pretty much impossible to live a “normal” life, but some pros try to live a healthy lifestyle.

16. Is there an underrated player in the scene you want to support?

I think the Turkish jungler Osman is very good.

17. If you weren’t a professional player, what would you have done?

I would have studied law at university.

18. How are the moments outside competitions with your team? Do you play with your teammates on a daily basis?

We sometimes get into the same solo queue game, but we don’t really play other games together.

19. How do you handle criticism, and what advice would you give to a player who is afraid to get started because of it?

I think criticism is important and necessary as long as it’s done well. You need to get used to it to improve as a player.

20. What would you improve in League Esports if you were in charge tomorrow?

I would bring back promotion in LEC/LCS (promoting from ERL to LEC for example).

21. Any final message for the fans?

I think we really let them down in the Winter Split, and the only thing we can do now is make it up by performing in the upcoming splits.
